Firecracker 500 Fun

Celebrate that quintessential American holiday, the Fourth of July, BVI-style with the Firecracker 500. This sailing race is a pursuit style race taking participants around Sandy Cay and other area islands. Sponsored by the Loyal West End Yacht Club, this popular and fun-filled competition will take place on Saturday, July 1st. Registration will be at the Fish N Lime the day before from 6-8pm. Nine boats entered last year’s race and organizers hope for an even better turnout this year.

The Great Chili Cook-off, a fundraiser for the youth sailing program, Kids and the Sea (KATS), will take place at the Fish N Lime following the race. Participants pay $1 per tasting cup to sample chilies ranging from mild to three-alarm. Bring your own pot of chili for judging, or just sample the goodies and be the judge. In addition to donating the cook-off proceeds, 50% of the entry fees will be handed over to KATS. A fun race, good food and a great cause – what could be a better way to celebrate the Fourth (or the First) of July?
